Hi! I’m Jay, the creator of Fantasy In Black, and I’d like to tell you a bit about my journey. My goal was simple: to make art that truly represents Black women in the fantasy worlds I love, such as those with magicians, superheroines, elves, mermaids, and even monsters. For a long time, these stories left out our experiences, beauty, and strength. That’s why I started making coloring books and art that put Black women and people from across the diaspora at the heart of these magical worlds.
It wasn’t just about art, it was about creating a space where everyone could see themselves reflected in the fantastical, where their culture, magic, and power could shine brightly. I poured my heart into selecting high-quality resources, such as premium paper for my physical coloring books, to ensure every coloring experience is joyful, vibrant, and truly exceptional.
Starting Fantasy In Black was a leap of faith, grounded in my passion for art and a deep desire to give others the same confidence and inspiration I’ve found in creating it.
